HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT: RULES FOR VACATIONISTS
Wherever you go or whatever you plan to do, you should observe the following rules. Some of them seem so obvious you may wonder why I include them, but let me assure you, they are broken regularly.
Do not plunge immediately into a full programme of activity, especially if you do sedentary work. Take it easy the first day. Work up to full activity gradually. A good rule to observe is this; if you pant or get out of breath, cut down on what you are doing or eliminate it entirely.
Do not be tempted to overeat when you sit down to a hotel dining table laden with food. The extra food puts more strain on your heart.
Diarrhoea often follows an over-rich diet, or one that includes foods strange to you. Contaminated water also can cause it. If you are plagued by this unpleasant problem, change to the softest, blandest foods, such as boiled or poached eggs, custard, or rice with milk and sugar. After each movement, drink something (preferably soup, tea, or milk) to compensate for fluid loss.
